June 2019 Legislative Update
While the 2019 legislative session is behind us, I'll continue to provide regular updates from the Capitol and in the district. Over the last several weeks, I've particularly enjoyed visiting with individuals and groups in the district to share the successes of the 2019 session. I hope you will check out June's legislative update below.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
In the past month since our last update, several study committees have been appointed and begun their work - including the House Rural Development Council, Maternal Mortality Study Committee, Georgia Commission on Freight and Logistics, and others. I look forward to following these committees' progress and recommendations as we look towards the 2020 legislative session.

PROUD TO BE NAMED "CHAMPION OF RECOVERY"
I was honored to be named "Champion of Recovery" by the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse for our work on House Bill 217 - my first bill now signed into law. The opioid epidemic touches every corner of our state, and I'm proud to be a part of efforts to fight back and save lives and money. Click here to read more from the Red & Black.
Additionally, I was honored to join the Council to kick off the Georgia Recovers campaign, which will highlight Georgians in recovery across our state and bring needed awareness and attention to this topic. We're making great progress as a state, and I believe that with the Georgia Recovers campaign, solutions that we're working on in the General Assembly and champions gathered at the campaign launch, we can continue to change lives. EVENTS IN THE DISTRICT
Over the past several weeks, I've enjoyed visiting with several more individuals and groups recapping the 2019 legislative session and sharing our vision for even more that we can accomplish together.
Almost daily, I have the chance to support and attend events in the community highlighting the great work of so many. Some of the events in June included a fundraiser supporting Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to improve child literacy in Athens, the incredible annual Ed Hoard Memorial Golf Tournament supporting the First Tee program, the Rotary Club of Athens where we heard the 'State of the City' and many more. On Monday, I had the chance to visit the Athens Boys & Girls Club and see the great work being done to support youth in Athens.

Last week, I toured the Caterpillar facility on the Clarke-Oconee line in the heart of District 117. I'm always amazed at the plant and scope of their work. We also discussed the critical need for workforce development, and I look forward to doing all I can to ensure we are training and preparing the next generation.
I attended all four county Republican committee meetings in recent weeks - including the Barrow Co. meeting where Commission Chair Pat Graham gave the 'State of the County'. I also attended the annual Walton Co. GOP BBQ where I had the opportunity to visit with Senator David Perdue and Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan.

If you have a group or event that you would like for me to visit, please let me know.
One of the most rewarding parts of being in the State House is assisting constituents with issues they face with state agencies. If you have any issues with state government, I stand ready to assist. Additionally, please feel free to reach out with any thoughts, questions or concerns on any issue.
